I was just wondering if anyone has had the same experience that I have been encountering when applying for advertised vacancies, receiving absolutely no response to it. I am aware that agencies are under pressure due to the high numbers of responses they are receiving but when you have to apply for the same job which is continuously advertised even when vacancy has been filled and when you try to contact the agent you cannot speak to relevant party, or if you do its to be told it has been filled! Why is it still advertised?? I have even presented into the offices in the hope of making an appointment for future possible vacancies which may arise and have been advised that if I have sent in a CV then I am registered...
In these employment starved times when you are being advised to keep up your spirits and follow up on all applications where do you go if you cannot receive a simple response whether it is 'We regret to inform you....' or 'You may benefit from ............', or what seems to be the regular response ' that vacancy has been filled'. If the agencies are being overworked surely there is employment opportunities for people out there to assist in replying to unsuccessful candidates and to keep up to date records of those applying, where they could issue details of how long your details may be kept etc....
It is extremely frustrating and demoralising in such a 'climate' - where has customer service gone ?????

i have heard this is really common. i think recruitment agencies are a necessary evil...even in the boom they were a pain. If you have a particular trade ie logistics or admin or hospitality then i guess you should target the agencies that specialise in those areas you might have a better chance.
my sister always swears by making somebody at the agency your new "best friend". Meet them, ring them etc and then stay in touch. That way you build a relationship with them so the next time you are job hunting they remember you and also they can recommend you so that way you get head hunted.
Hey one good thing in the recession - it will clear out all the dross from the recruitment agencies. Only the good will survive.

the agencies are paid by companies they recruit for-when they look at your cv and seen it doesn't have what may be suitable for one of their openings-they, in essence, bin it. they really don't care!
